While there are some advantages to being over fifty such as feeling freer to express yourself and perhaps more fearless, the changes that come with being a senior can be frustrating.  Perhaps you are struggling with body issues such as arthritis, osteoporosis, weakness or a lack of balance or flexibility.  You may start noticing that you don’t have the strength and endurance you had before.  The good news is that exercise is the key to aging well and utilizing Pilates over the age of fifty makes sense for safe and effective activity. Reformer or Mat Pilates exercises also works well for seniors, especially, and the movements have been shown to empower them in more ways than one.

Reformer Pilates is a great way to stay physically active throughout your life and help you maintain your overall health into your senior years.  Regular exercise helps improve your mood, prevent heart disease, diabetes, and keep pain at bay. There are many middle-age adults who are free of pain, fit, and simply trying to maintain their flexibility and mobility.  However, there are others that have physical limitations who need to find an exercise program that will work for them. Regardless of your fitness level, Pilates is an excellent way to increase your fitness level over the age of fifty.

No matter what your condition, Pilates offers an opportunity to exercise safely, learn more about awareness of breath, address any limitations, while finding a strategy that works for you. Here are some ways that Pilates can help you look and feel great at any age.

Knowing That You Can Do This

Understanding what happens to the body as you age can be done by learning Pilates. It can help you change your mind-set about getting older, build your confidence, and realize that you can still work out.
