Branded the Leaders in Mindful Movement, Merrithew was founded by Lindsay and Moira Merrithew. Originally a ballet dancer, Moira discovered Pilates at a young age when she was forced to cut her career short due to a chronic foot injury. She trained with a disciple of Joseph Pilates in New York City and eventually founded the STOTT PILATES® method. Originally known as STOTT® conditioning (derived from her maiden name), the method places an emphasis on restoration of the natural spine curvatures and the balancing and strengthening of the muscles surrounding the joint.

While maintaining true to the fundamentals of Joseph Pilates’ method, Stott® distinguishes itself with its unique approach to postural alignment.

The five basic principles of STOTT PILATES® are breathing, pelvic placement, rib cage placement, scapular movement and stabilization, and head and cervical placement. Merrithew’s apparatuses are exquisitely-crafted and designed based on these core fundamentals.

Manufactured in Toronto Canada, the Merrithew line of Pilates apparatuses are some of the most refined state-of-the-art machinery available on the market today. Most of their reformers are custom made to order and can be upgraded to include a high-precision gearbar and height extension to accommodate six more inches. Adding a vertical frame and mat converter to any of their professional Pilates reformers, gives it the capability to perform nearly 80% of the Cadillac / Trapeze table repertoire.
